There are several types of pets in the game, you'll have to be more specific :|

There are non-combat pets, tamed pets and summoned pets. For the most part, Hunters and Warlocks are the classes that get pets.

As far as tamed pets go as a Hunter at level 10 you will recieve a quest to tame i think 2 beasts (sorry its been a while since i played my hunter) and as a reward you get to pick your own pet
